Thank you Jemma x
Hi I am a year 3 student midwife currently in my last hospital placement on delivery suite. I can’t quite believe how fast these last 2 and a half years have gone, and time is getting closer to completing the programme to become a future midwife. This has been a challenge for me right from the beginning. There I was, 39 years old with 3 children, aged then 5, 10 and 12 and a husband who is away month on and month off, and about to embark on a passion that has been simmering for about 12 years since I had my first son. It took me a while to sink in that I was a student midwife. I was petrified, excited and apprehensive all at the same time. So here I am, nearing the end of my journey.
There have been amazing, worrying/scary times and rewarding times beyond belief. That special journey that you take with that family is truly amazing. I love that feeling that you have helped that family go from being a couple to a family or just expanding their already made family. Everyday is a challenge and I learn everyday, and I suppose I will continue to learn all the way through my career.
My dreaded dissertation is looming and I’ve decided to investigate further into Kangaroo Care. This phenomenon fascinated me and the benefits of Kangaroo Care are outstanding. Helping a woman bond skin to skin with their newborn baby and initiate breastfeeding is satisfactory and rewarding, that closeness that is apparent is amazing.
I can’t wait to become a midwife and make a difference to someone through their amazing journey from start to finish and hopefully let them come away with a beautiful pregnancy journey.
Love Jemma xx
