Like Angelique I’m a stay at home mum. My 4 babies have now grown into 4 children. No 1 child is an 11 year old trying to make his mark and there are new challenges thrown in the mix with the old. Sometimes the same old techniques work (albeit with more limited success). Yesterday in an attempt to diffuse a delicate situation I decided to sing Monty Python’s “Always look on the Bright Side of Life” at top volume whilst attempting to reverse the car. This worked a treat for the younger 3 children who laughed out loud (great!). No 1 allowed himself a mere hint of a smile that disappeared as swiftly as it had come (greatish?). He was probably inwardly cringing at how embarrassing I was. However, I had temporarily broken the mood and that was a move in the right direction. My parking was pretty bad but I didn’t care!
I continued with various attempts to lighten the mood as the afternoon turned into evening, even donning a Kate Middleton mask to serve up the children’s tea. YES! Big smiles and laughter all round, even from No 1! (Ok, if you want to know why I possess such a mask, check out our facebook page for the answer!). I did feel a little ridiculous when our builder turned up and caught me pretending to be Kate. Dignity gone in one fell swoop. Thank goodness I wasn’t singing Monty Python’s hit at the same time. Or perhaps that would have been the perfect moment?
