The flight was the bit I wasn’t looking forward to. But it wasn’t too bad, bar the vomiting episode. I would never describe a journey that long with 4 children as enjoyable, but it was manageable! We flew with Etihad airlines, who offer an in-flight nanny service. This is available for older children as well as babies and toddlers. We had no need for it on this trip but based on trips we’ve made in the past it seems like a very good idea to me. I would certainly have made full use of it had I been flying with a baby.
Whilst in Sydney we took the boys to wander through the Botanic Gardens where they saw eels in a pond before playing an obligatory game of football. We passed the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, walked all the way through the City to Darling Harbour where they got to rest their weary feet and have a very welcome cold drink.
Returning home to what is actually fairly mild weather, but feels very cold, very grey and very wet, is not ideal. January has never been my favourite month. But I shall try to take pleasure in the fact we are unlikely to get stung by any jellyfish, or be faced with any potentially poisonous spiders any time soon. Meanwhile I miss Australia. And I miss all my family who live over there. The other side of the world feels very far away.
