Persuaded by the appealingly amusing picture my friend had painted, I gave Emma Golds' FitSteps class a go. It was a Thursday morning and I felt exhausted and stressed with searing sciatica. I made a million excuses to Emma so she would forgive my hopeless steps. She was understanding and kind, and emphasised that I should only do what I felt comfortable with. Then she cranked up the music and introduced us to a world of Latin and Ballroom meets workout as we Cha Cha-ed, Jived, bounced the Charleston, Waltzed with imaginary partners and totally Tangoed. It was awesome and fun and we giggled so much that my face hurt at the end of the lesson, along with my body!
Our FitSteps venue is a hall very close to the village school, with lovely big windows to let the light in.....which also means other mums can look in.....which they smilingly do! We FitSteppers are a great source of amusement as we (try to) master the Quickstep and emulate the proud Latin look as we do the Paso Doble. But it's too fun to care about any onlookers, which is odd as I still surreptitiously sprint when out walking. In fact there's the proof that running isn't fun enough (yet) to make me not care how ridiculous I look, while I am happy to wave a cheerful Cha Cha to my friends outside the hall.
PS You may have noticed the absence of photographic evidence that I attend FitSteps classes. Give it a few months and I may post some pics....and I might also be running for fun in public....help, Shona???!
