With only one more sleep to go before our trip to beautiful Ile-de-re in France, No 1 son tripped, when running home from a friend’s house, (after a fun-filled day of swimming, football and playing) knocked himself out and we had a late night, anxiety-filled trip to A&E rather than the relaxing evening we had planned!
Thankfully he is okay, recovering slowly, largely due to refusing to take it easy on holiday and enjoying cycling and swimming rather too much.
In spite of this upsetting start to our holiday we had a wonderful time. Ile-de-re is a stunning island off La Rochelle with miles of long wide sandy beaches and great cycle paths around the island, which provide wonderfully exhausting activity for my hard to exhaust boys. Added to that a number of very pretty little towns with gorgeous markets, fantastic cafes and restaurants and a lot of delicious ice cream shops. Which all makes for a rather perfect week away.
Luckily there were no more serious accidents while we were there. Just a foot that required bandaging by lifeguards after cutting it open on the rocks while searching for crabs.
And after our lovely week came to an end we had a very familiar scenario – No 3 son crying because we were going home and he didn’t want the holiday to end, while No 4 son clapped with excitement as the ferry arrived back in England. My little homebody who always counts the sleeps before we go away, and then counts the sleeps with even more enthusiasm until we return home.
